TO CORRESPONDENTS.

INTERMEDIATE QUESTIONS.-I should feel obliged if "F." would kindly inform me whether he answered the whole of the Intermediate Examination questions or not?-B. W.-[Will “F.” enable us to answer this question?—ED.]

IGNORANTIA. Unless the bill of sale were registered it would be inoperative in any event against the parties mentioned in the statute, but the statute does not go on to say that registration shall give validity to the bill of sale where before the Act it would have been invalid. Your supposition in the P.S. is quite correct. We think if you will re-read what is said in the "Law Dictionary" respecting this you will fully understand the matter.

M. A. X.-As the Examination Questions and Answers for 1861 and 1862 are given in vols. i. and ii., with the addition of "Studies" thereon, we do not intend to publish them as was done with those in the years 1859, 1860.

OMEGA. The father is entitled to the custody of the infant. The question of variance can only be answered with reference to a specific case. Absolute covenant; are those entered into by mortgagors; qualified, those by vendors. Any law dictionary, or even a good non-legal one, will expla in the term; you mention. We have mentioned the books for the Intermediate Examination 1863, ante p. 15; those for 1864 are not yet fixed.

TREBLA. The examiners are not limited to any particular number of questions at the Interm ediate E: caminations, but we believe seven is the usual number on each subject, for the present. Book 2 of Stephen is comprised in part of vol. one of that work. That book treats merely of the "1ights of Property." Many students have erroneously supposed the examir ers to refer to volume two. We tried to prevent any misconception on a point of such importance to candidates.

NOAH'S WILL.-The reference made to this s upposed testamentary document was wrong; it should be Gen esis, ch: p. ix., v. 25.

ALPHA.—We wish we could furnish the information you require about the Intermediate Examination, but the fact is, that the whole examination is kept as much a secret as possible. Some of our subscribers might, we think, send us inforr nation respecting that examination. We are certain that, however small, it would be received by our readers with satisfactior. Will not some, who have gone through the ordeal, blige us in this respect?

SUPPRESSION OF EXAMINATION QUESTIONS.

IT appears that the Council of the Incorporated Law Society has recently determined that the questions at the examinations shall not in future be published, so that, so far as lies in the power of that body, articled clerks are to be debarred from knowing what sort of questions are put to candidates. This step is a novel one, for ever since the commencement of the examinations the questions have been published, with the knowledge, if not the consent, of the Council. Indeed, it is understood that the Council granted, or permitted this privilege to the late secretary of the Incorporated Law Society, Mr. Maugham, for the benefit of his publication, the late Legal Observer, which, with its good-will (if we may be allowed that expression), was sold to the proprietors of the Solicitors' Journal, and merged therein. This exclusive privilege at least gave priority to Mr. Maugham's publication, and added considerably to its otherwise limited circulation; and the Council was mean enough to refuse a similar right of publication to us when we applied to them many years ago, on behalf of our then periodical. It would seem that the Council is now acting on the principle of the maxim, "Cesante causâ, cessat effectus," for Mr. Maugham, for whose benefit the privilege of publication was accorded, having recently died, the privilege is to be withdrawn. However, it so happens that the Council has undertaken something beyond its power, and though much trouble may be given yet the questions will be forthcoming, as is shown by the issue of the present number, which contains the suppressed questions, if not exactly verbatim and in their original order, yet sufficiently so to be as useful as ever to articled clerks.

We are in hopes that the Council will see the inutility of its prohibition, and withdraw the order, but if not, we can only ask our subscribers who may hereafter go up to the examinations to furnish us with copies of all or any of the questions which may be put to them. If each will furnish the questions under one of the five divisions, we doubt not we shall get on as hitherto, but we shall be glad to receive contributions of even single questions. We shall feel additionally obliged by the questions being sent to us as early as possible, so as to enable us to publish them with the answers at the usual time.

We may add, as some of our readers do not appear to know, that the Examiners have never permitted the questions at the Intermediate Examinations to appear, and what we have published has been kindly furnished to us by candidates. We shall be glad of a continued supply, as many articled clerks are anxiously waiting for the appearance of the questions. An additional favour would be conferred if the answers to the questions on Book-keeping were furnished, as very many articled clerks are more afraid of this than any other portion of the examination, and are very anxious to ascertain what kind of answers will suffice.

MOOT POINTS.

No. 4.-Attorney's bill.-Agent.-Has an attorney, acting as agent for another attorney in the country, any occasion to deliver his bill signed before bringing an action for the amount?
