While serving as Sergeant Major of the Army, Master Chief Petty Officer of the Navy, Chief Master Sergeant of the Air Force, Sergeant Major of the Marine Corps, or Master Chief Petty Officer of the Coast Guard, basic pay for this grade is $1,185 regardless of cumulative years of service computed under section 205 of this title.

AMENDMENTS

1972 Subsec. (a). Pub. L. 92-455 substituted in footnote 1 of the enlisted members pay table "Chief Master Sergeant of the Air Force, Sergeant Major of the Marine Corps, or Master Chief Petty Officer of the Coast Guard,” for "Chief Master Sergeant of the Air Force, or Sergeant Major of the Marine Corps,”.

1971-Subsec. (a). Pub. L. 92-129 increased the rates of monthly basic pay for all personnel.

MASTER CHIEF PETTY OFFICER OF THE COAST GUARD;

PAY RECOVERY

Section 5 of Pub. L. 92-455 provided that: "An enlisted member of the Coast Guard who has served as the master chief petty officer of the Coast Guard before enactment of this Act [Oct. 2, 1972] is entitled to recover the differences between the basic pay (including proficiency pay) received while so serving and the amount he would have received if his basic pay had been the same as the basic pay of the senior enlisted advisers of the other Armed Forces from the time of his original appointment to serve as the master chief petty officer of the Coast Guard." REDUCTION IN PAY PROHIBITED

Section 210 of Pub. L. 92–129 provided that: "The enactment of this title [enacting sections 3028, 308a, and 428 of this title and amending this section, section 403 (a) of

this title, and sections 2203, 2204, and 2207 of Title 50 Appendix] shall not reduce the pay to which any member of the uniformed services was entitled on June 30, 1971."

REPORT BY JUNE 30, 1972, BY SECRETARY OF DEFENSE TO CONGRESSIONAL COMMITTEES ON EFFECTIVENESS OF 1971 PAY INCREASES IN INCREASING VOLUNTEERS

Section 211 of Pub. L. 92-129 provided that: "Not later than June 30, 1972, the Secretary of Defense shall report to the Chairman of the Armed Services Committees of the Senate and of the House of Representatives on the effectiveness of the provision of this title [enacting sections 3028, 308a, and 428 of this title and amending this section, section 403 (a) of this title, and sections 2203, 2204, and 2207 of Title 50 Appendix] in increasing the number of volunteers enlisting for active duty in the Armed Forces of the United States."

Ex. Ord. No. 11577, Jan. 8, 1971, 36 F.R. 349, provided: By virtue of the authority vested in me by the laws of the United States, including the Act of December 16, 1967 [Pub. L. 90-207], and the Federal Pay Comparability Act of 1970 [Pub. L. 91-656], and as President of the United States and Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces of the United States, it is hereby ordered as follows:

SECTION 1. The rates of monthly basic pay for members of the uniformed services within each pay grade are adjusted upwards as set forth in the following tables:
