1 Attorney General Kleindienst resigned effective May 25, 1973. 2 Mr. Elliot L. Richardson, of Massachusetts, was nominated to be Attorney General by President Nixon on May 1, 1973. The nominaion was confirmed by the Senate on May 23, 1973; he was commisioned on May 24, 1973; and took the oath of office on May 25, 1973.
