Under deck in a compartment with commodities having

like character, or with nondangerous commodities, or with commodities not subject to contamination there

from. "Fiber" boxes, as listed, may include solid, corrugated, or hardened fiber boxes, according to packing requirements for the articles shipped.

"Cylinders," as listed, are specification metal cylinders, according to requirements for articles shipped.

The stowage charts indicate, in addition to the stowage for articles defined by the regulations in Parts 80, 81, 82, and this part as “explosives” and “dangerous articles," such other articles as are in some respect hazardous or offensive cargo for the purpose of assisting the ship owner in the stowage of these articles. These articles are indicated by such descriptions as "combustible liquids," "semihazardous articles" or "odorous articles."

Combustible liquids are those liquids having a flash point above 80° F., and below 150° F.

Semihazardous articles are those articles which have such properties that will, under some conditions, cause spontaneous heating or ignition.

Other articles shown in the list have strong or offensive odors.

NOTE 1: Until further order of the Commission carboys of nominal capacity not exceeding 15 gallons may be used for shipment of hydrochloric acid to West Indies.

NOTE 2: Automobiles, motorcycles, tractors, or other self-propelled vehicles equipped with acetylene gas, gasoline, or other fuel tanks containing inflammable liquids must have these tanks securely closed after vehicles are driven on vessels under their own power. Draining of gasoline or other fuel tanks containing inflammable liquids should be required when these vehicles are loaded below the main deck. Any vehicle containing inflammable liquid should not be stowed with general cargo.

NOTE 3: Does not include thoroughly washed and dried bags, which are exempt from the regulations in Parts 72–83.

Articles indicated by reference symbol (#) are those designated as dangerous by express regulations but not by freight regulations.
