at $720 per annum, he was made Third Assistant Examiner July 15, 1874, and promoted successively to Second and First Assistant. He resigned April 30, 1885 and engaged in patent practice for years, with his office in this city. The interruption of business in the early years of the recent war, coupled with business reverses in other directions, led him to seek reinstatement in the Patent Office which was effected, through Presidential order, April 16, 1917. He was promoted to Third Assistant July 25, 1917, and to Second Assistant Oct. 2, 1919. In his last term in the Office he served most acceptably in Div. 33. Kindly in disposition, he had many friends who remember with admiration his active participation in the affairs of the Office to the very last.

EDITORIAL.

Under date of June 30, 1920, Dr. Mario Diaz Irizar, Director of the Bureau at Havana for the International Registration of Trade-Marks, writes Mr. Rockwood, of this Office, complimenting him upon his article on trademark procedure under the Buenos Aires Convention of 1910, appearing in the May Journal. He writes, "I wish to congratulate you on the completeness and clearness of your article. I could not myself have handled the subject as clearly and as concisely."
