THIS

PREFACE.

VOLUME includes all cases relating to Letters Patent for Inventions, Copyrights, and Trade-marks which have been decided in the Supreme Court of the United States since the December Term of 1860. It also contains a Table of all American Patent, Copyright, and Trade-mark cases which have been cited, affirmed, approved, explained, doubted, disapproved, overruled, or reversed in the Reports of the Federal and State Courts. In preparing this Table the author has endeavored to supply a need which has long been felt, and he feels confident that the value of his labors will be appreciated by his professional brethren, who are aware of the difficulties and doubts which arise in examining the adjudged cases, and are ready to avail themselves of all means within their reach in reconciling conflicting decisions and settling doubtful questions.

A volume containing all decisions of the Court made prior to the December Term of 1861, and now to be found scattered through the sixty-four volumes comprising the Reports of Dallas, Cranch, Wheaton, Peters, and Howard, is in the course of preparation,

CHARLES SIDNEY WHITMAN.
