Practice Issues for the Beginning Counselor

This text covers one of the eight core areas of the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP) curriculum, which relates to professional orientation or identity. It would serve counselors in training who attend schools that are CACREP-accredited or whose curriculum conforms to CACREP guidelines. This book would also aid practicing counselors who are preparing for national certification and/or state licensure as professional counselors.

Practice Issues for the Beginning Counselor addresses ten topics of consequence including: What is my professional identity? How is my training different from social workers or family therapists? What is involved in becoming licensed? What is involved in starting a private practice? What do I need to know about ethics and the law? How do I continue to receive clinical supervision? What is involved in counselor advocacy? How do I respond to the client when issues of spirituality arise? How will the Internet affect me in the future?
