OPENING STATEMENT OF CHAIRMAN MCCOLLUM

Mr. MCCOLLUM. This hearing of the Subcommittee on Crime will come to order. Good morning, everyone, and welcome to this morning's hearing on legislation addressing violence against women and stalking. Today we will be receiving testimony regarding two bills, H.R. 1248, the Violence Against Women Act of 1999, and H.R. 1869, the Stalking Prevention and Victim Protection Act of 1999. [The bills, H.R. 1248 and H.R. 1869, follow:]

A BILL

To prevent violence against women.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States
of America in Congress assembled,

SECTION 1. SHORT TITLE; TABLE OF CONTENTS.

(a) SHORT TITLE.-This Act may be cited as the "Violence Against Women Act

of 1999".
