EXPLANATION OF CHANGES SHOWN ON SCHEDULE C: For salaries and expenses for the Office of Compliance, $2,286,000. This is a decrease of $193,000 from the FY 1997 appropriation of $2,479,000. Mandatory Pay and Related Changes: Personnel increases of $40,000 are attributed to a projected cost of living adjustment of three percent of staff salaries. As a result of staff attrition, a decrease of $99,000 is requested for staff salaries, as newly employed staff have been hired at lower salaries in some cases. A decrease of $27,000 is requested in personnel benefits, based on FY 1997 actual expenditures. Price Level Changes: A decrease of $8,000 is requested in travel, based on FY 1997 actual expenditures that were less than anticipated. In rent, communications and utilities, a decrease of $21,000 is requested for long distance data communications costs for Westlaw and related on-line services, as this expense decreased significantly in FY 1997. An increase of $1,000 is requested for office supplies, due to inflation factors.
