Annual Report

OF THE

Ohio State Board of Agriculture

For the Year 1898,

DEPARTMENT OF AGRICULTURE,
COLUMBUS, March 15, 1899.

To the Honorable, The General Assembly of Ohio:

GENTLEMEN: In compliance with law, The Ohio State Board of Agriculture herewith submits its Fifty-third Annual Report. The report contains the transactions of the Board for 1898, Crop and Live Stock Statistics, Agricultural Statistics gathered by county auditors and reported to the Department, Tables of Comparative Statistics, Bulletin of Entries and Awards of the Forty-eighth Annual Fair, Abstracts of Reports from County Agricultural Societies, Report on Commercial Fertilizers, Proceedings of the Fifty-fourth Annual Meeting of The State Board of Agriculture, Report of Farmers' Institutes, Proceedings of the State Farmers' Institute, Report of the Thirty-seventh Annual Session of the Ohio Wool Growers' Association, papers presented at the Annual Meeting of the Ohio Draft and Coach Horse Breeders' Association, and a brief history of the State Board of Agriculture and Farmers' Institutes. The work of the Department of Agriculture continues to grow heavier each year, as will be seen by reference to the several reports, and is of inestimable value to the agriculturists of Ohio, a fact which is recognized by all.

The Ohio State Fair Grounds have been enlarged and beautified by the addition of handsome and commodious buildings for the exhibition of live stock, thanks to the wise and generous provision of the seventythird General Assembly, making them the best, most complete fair grounds in this country, if not in the world.

The Department of Agriculture takes this opportunity to thank the General Assembly and the people of Ohio for the hearty coöperation and ready support extended to it in the performance of its duties.

Respectfully submitted,

JAS. W. FLEMING,

Assistant Secretary.

W. W. MILLER,
Secretary.
