Forty thousand units of antitoxin were given each adult diphtheria patient in Blissfield. Children under 14 were given toxoid instead, in order that permanent immunity might be started.

The day after the Blissfield camp had been quarantined, the "mobile laboratory" of the State health department was sent to the scene to take cultures.

By using its mobile laboratory at Blissfield, the Michigan Health Department was able to do the bacteriology on cultures on the scene, and 18 hours later all individuals carrying the organisms had been isolated. This scene is the interior of the laboratory.

The sheriff and State police of Michigan were called in to maintain the quarantine at Blissfield, and they were assisted by the colony "boss," shown above. One man violated the quarantine, went to a motion-picture theater, and later was jailed.
