WORTHY OF YOUR

PATRONAGE

In the January Painter and Decorator we were glad to call to the attention of our membership, with an illustration, the fact that our disabled brother, L. B. Long, was making his livelihood selling UNION MADE CIGARS, manufactured by the Commonwealth Cigar Company. Through inadvertence Brother Long's address was not given. It is care City Hall, Marion, Illinois. Not only is Brother Long worthy of your patronage, but the cigars which he sells are of very excellent quality. Get in touch with him!

Former Wage Earner Says Floor Surfacing Pays Him $20 to $30 Daily

Hugh A. Cox, of Lakeland, Fla., is another of the many former wage earners who have given up poor paying and uncertain jobs to share in the big profits that are being made by floor surfacing contractors with electrically driven American Universal Machines.

In the enthusiastic letter outlining his success with the American Universal Machine, Mr. Cox enclosed the photograph of his outfit which we reproduce on this page.

Here are some paragraphs from his letter which should interest every painter and other wage earner who is anxious to get out of the rut and into something that offers a big, steady, permanent income with no lay offs and a chance to establish himself in a paying business, to be his own boss and to build an independent future for himself and his family.

DAY-KINGSLEY

DRYER COMPANY PERFECTS BRUSH CLEANER The Day-Kingsley Dryer Company, Cleveland, Ohio, has formulated a paint brush cleaner that marks the realization of a long wanted substance that would clean paint brush bristles and at the same time be noninjurious to either the brush or the paint or varnish.

Heretofore about the only substance that was available to painters for cleaning brushes with any degree of efficiency was turpentine. Turpentine, however, had its weak points for it was apt to dry the bristles and cause them to split.

The Day-Kingsley Dryer Company, however, has perfected the formula that results in a non-oxidizing, vegetable oil that completely dissolves old dry paint and renders the bristles clean and renews their original animal life and pliability and prevents them from becoming dry and split at the ends. This product is named long life.

There was a thin maiden called Lena,
Who bought a new vacuum clena,
But she got in the way
Of its suction one day

And since then nobody has seena.

SPECIAL NOTICE
TO MEMBERS OF THE
BROTHERHOOD

Stay Away from Chicago, Ill. District Council No. 14, is still fighting against the unfair Landis award and the Citizens' Committee which has tried to enforce it by bringing non-union men to the city. Clearance Cards will not be accepted.

Mr. Cox says:

"Since purchasing my 'American Universal' floor surfacing machine I average $20.00 and $30.00 clear profit every day.

"My 'American Universal' does the work of at least five men, and the quality of the work it turns out is all the advertisement I need for my business.

"You can take it from me, I'd never go back to the old back breaking method of hand scraping for I make too much money with the 'American Universal.' "I'm busy all the time and get all the work I can do."

Others Equally Successful

Investigation shows that scores of other men who have taken up floor surfacing the "American Universal" way as a business, have reported remarkable success from the start. Among these are J. H. Christensen, Wakonda, Minn., who says he is making approximately $25.00 a day; P. E. DeLong of Norman, Okla., who tells how he earned enough in sixty days to pay for his machine twice over; J. C. Ivory of Altoona, Pa., who says he made $400.00 clear money on one job.

The American Floor Surfacing Machine Co., Toledo, Ohio, manufacturers of the "American Universal" Machine, offers valuable assistance to readers of Painter and Decorator who want to take advantage of the big opportunity the floor surfacing business presents. As no experience and very little capital is required, any intelligent man who is earnest and ambitious to get ahead should prosper at this work from the very first day. If you want to become independent, be your own boss and make twice or three times as much as you do at present, it will certainly pay you to investigate. Further information about the American Universal Way of floor surfacing may be gained from the advertisement on page 127, this issue. Read it. Write to the American Floor Surfacing Machine Co., 534 South St. Clair St., Toledo, Ohio, and ask for full particulars.
