PROJECT JUSTIFICATION: This project will improve the safety on a through route which has one of the highest volumes of traffic in the District of Columbia. Funds requested in 1972 are for plans and specifications and construction. SCOPE OF WORK OUTLINE: Install new guide rail and upgrade existing guide rail to current standards, install "breaking" type light standards, provide new shoulder construction, modify signs, modify drainage, construct bridge parapet on Deane Avenue Bridge. Agency Highways and Traffic Page 23-CAP-19 PROJECT JUSTIFICATION: There have been instances of objects being thrown or dropped from the Anacostia River Bridges on boats and their occupants passing below. Injuries to persons and major damage to boats has resulted from this practice. This project will provide fencing which will discourage the throwing or dropping of objects from the bridges. The fences will be carefully designed to insure an acceptable appearance. Funds requested in 1972 are for plans and specifications and construction. SCOPE OF WORK OUTLINE: Design, fabricate and install protective fences to discourage Agency Highways and Traffic Page 23-CAP-22 PROJECT JUSTIFICATION: Projects in the Safety Improvement category are to eliminate high and potential accident conditions on the city street system, and are a part of the current National and City Highway Safety Programs.
