THE JUDICIARY SUPREME COURT, Salaries STATEMENT OF HON. BYRON R. WHITE, ASSOCIATE JUSTICE; ACCOMPANIED BY JOHN F. DAVIS, CLERK; T. PERRY LIPPITT, MARSHAL; AND DINA R. ZUCCONI, ASSISTANT TO THE MARSHAL BUDGET REQUEST, HOUSE ALLOWANCE, APPEAL LETTER Senator MCCLELLAN. The subcommittee will be in order. This morning the subcommittee will consider the fiscal year 1968 fund requirements for the judiciary branch. The first item relates to salaries for the Supreme Court. The 1968 budget estimate was $2,124,000. The House allowed $2,031,500, a reduction of $92,500. By letter dated June 12, 1967, Chief Justice Earl Warren asked the committee to restore the House reduction of $92,500 in order to employ nine additional law clerks. Also requested was exemption from section 704 of the bill, which limits expenditures to 95 percent of the total aggregate net expenditures estimated in the budget for 1968.
