Australia

The American Legation at Bern reported by a despatch dated February 2, 1935, that according to an announcement of the Swiss Federal Chancery the adherence of Australia to the convention for the protection of literary and artistic works, as revised at Rome June 2, 1928, became effective on January 18, 1935.

INTERNATIONAL CONVENTION FOR THE SUPPRESSION OF COUNTERFEITING CURRENCY'

Greece

By a circular letter dated January 21, 1935, the Secretary General of the League of Nations informed the Secretary of State that he had received a communication from the Hellenic Republic stating that it had no objections to the reservation which the Polish Government wishes to make on behalf of the Free City of Danzig in regard to its ratification of the convention for the suppression of counterfeiting currency, signed at Geneva April 20, 1929.

CERTAIN CONVENTIONS OF THE INTERNATIONAL LABOR CONFERENCE

Great Britain

The Secretary General of the League of Nations informed the Secretary of State by a circular letter dated January 21, 1935, that the instrument of ratification by Great Britain of the convention concerning the protection against accidents of workers employed in loading or unloading ships (revised, 1932), adopted by the International Labor Conference at its sixteenth session, was registered with the Secretariat on January 10, 1935.

Sweden

According to a circular letter from the League of Nations dated January 15, 1935, the instrument of ratification by Sweden of the convention concerning unemployment indemnity in case of loss or foundering of the ship, adopted by the International Labor Conference at its second session, was registered with the Secretariat on January 1, 1935.

Switzerland

According to a circular letter from the League of Nations dated January 30, 1935, the instrument of ratification by Switzerland of the convention concerning the application of the weekly rest in industrial undertakings, adopted by the International Labor Conference at its third session, was registered with the Secretariat on January 16, 1935.

It is stated in the above-mentioned circular letter that according to the terms of the instrument of ratification, the Swiss Federal authorities have decided that the convention should be put into force in Switzerland as from September 1, 1934.

Philippine Islands

The American Minister to Egypt reported by a despatch dated January 16, 1935, that the ratification by the Philippine Islands of the universal postal convention, the annexed regulations, and the provisions of air-mail transportation and final protocol, signed at Cairo March 20, 1934, was deposited with the Egyptian Government on December 31, 1934.

CLAIMS

CLAIMS AGREEMENT BETWEEN THE UNITED STATES AND TURKEY 1

The American Ambassador to Turkey informed the Secretary of State by a despatch dated January 25, 1935, of the receipt of a note from the Turkish Ministry for Foreign Affairs regarding the ratification by Turkey of the claims agreement with the United States signed October 25, 1934.

The note reads, in translation, as follows:

MR. AMBASSADOR:

ANKARA, January 24, 1935.

Agreeable to the provisions of article 3 of the agreement concluded at Ankara on October 25, 1934, between the Government of the United States of America and that of the Republic relating to the friendly settlement of claims of citizens of the United States upon the Turkish Government, I have the honor to bring to the knowledge of Your Excellency that the said agreement was approved by the Grand National Assembly of Turkey on December 23, 1934, by virtue of Law No. 2670 and was ratified by the President of the Republic. I beg that Your Excellency will be kind enough to bring the foregoing to the attention of your Government and to receive the assurances of my very high consideration.
