Libr habr 8-27-27 10615 PREFACE This manual is intended to serve as guide for the organization of small libraries. It contains the lectures of a six weeks library course at the Catholic University of America. The use of this manual leaves free for recitation and discussion of library problems, time otherwise consumed in note-taking. The practical side of this manual is to give information on organizing a library, cataloguing, classifying, etc. material generally scattered about among all kinds of books treating of these subjects. The list of reference books given is not complete but the most necessary ones are mentioned. For a complete list of reference books, the librarian, and students should consult "I. G. Mudge's New Guide to reference books," Chicago, Am. Lib. Ass., 1923. A résumé of the history of printing, a list of the most common pseudonyms, as also a list of the most important bibliographical and typographical terms, are found at the end of the book. |
