Senator Sparkman. Senator SPARKMAN. I have 1 or 2 questions. Have you commented yet on the necessity, or the desirability of the amendment that Senator Maybank said yesterday he proposed to introduce? Mr. COLE. Of course, there would be no objection on our part for such an amendment. May I add that we have agreed that in the executive branch, that there is sufficient authorization in the present law. Therefore it is a problem for the Appropriations Committee to deal with. That is a matter that Congress is going to have to decide. From our point of view we have agreed that there is sufficient authorization and therefore we see nothing else to present besides the recommendation for 35,000 units a year for 4 years. Senator SPARKMAN. Of course, the matter of setting the policy though should be one for the legislative committee rather than for the Appropriations Committee. 60 a |
