New Publication for Endocrinology

A new bi-monthly publication, Endocrinology Index, has been developed by the National Institute of Arthritis and Metabolic Diseases (NIAMD) to facilitate communication, integration of research and clinical efforts, and literature retrieval in the field of endocrinology. The index, based on the National Library of Medicine's Medical Literature Analysis and Retrieval System (MEDLARS), was made possible through contract assistance to Vanderbilt University, Nashville, Tennessee, under the direction of Dr. Grant D. Liddle.

The Endocrinology Index contains an organized listing of references to recently published endocrinology-related articles from throughout the world and provides a key-word abstract of each citation. Several experimental issues of current bibliographies in endocrinology were prepared in response to indications from leading endocrinologists of the need for such guides. On the basis of this experience and evaluations provided by an advisory committee the present format of the index was developed.

The new publication is the latest of a series of well-received and unique current awareness periodicals established by NIAMD since 1964, including Arthritis and Rheumatic Diseases Abstracts, Diabetes Literature Index, Gastroenterology Abstracts and Citations, and Artificial Kidney Bibliography.

Inquiries concerning any of these publications may be addressed to the Scientific Communications Office, National Institute of Arthritis and Metabolic Diseases, National Institutes of Health, Bethesda, Maryland 20014.
