Purpose: The primary purpose of the Annual Report is to provide the Congress with an account of all moneys received and disbursed by the VA, and a description of the work and activity of the agency during each fiscal year. The report is required by 38 U.S.C. 214. Input: With few exceptions the primary source is internal and includes Health Care, Compensation and Pension, Education Benefits, Housing Assistance, Life Insurance, Veterans Assistance, National Cemetary System and Administration and Management. Content: The Annual Report consists of narrative, including charts, graphs, illustrations and statistical tables. Purpose: The Veterans Administration Library Network (VALNET), which consists of 175 network libraries, supports the VA health care system. VALNET provides recreational, vocational, and general library service to patients and technical and medical library services to medical center staff. Content: VALNET resources include more than 2 million print items and about 500,000 pieces of audiovisual software. Access to more than 100 automated data bases, through NLM/MEDLARS, Lockheed/DIALOG, System Development Corporation, and the Ohio College Library Center, is available at designated network libraries and the central office library. Reference, bibliographic, interlibrary loan, and circulation services are offered by all network libraries. Special services provided by network libraries include computer-assisted instruction through the Health Education Network, clinical librarianship, LATCH, bibliotherapy, and patient education support.
