Pursuant to the requirements of the Constitution, the representatives-elect to the House of Representatives of the State of Michigan for the years 1929 and 1930, assembled in Representative Hall in the Capitol at Lansing on the first Wednesday in January, the second day of January, 1929, at 12:00 o'clock m., and, in accordance with law, were called to order by Dennis G. Whiton, acting clerk of the preceding House.

The following invocation was offered by Dr. Ralph W. Hobbs of the First Baptist Church of Lansing:

"Our Heavenly Father, we thank Thee for this New Year. We thank Thee that the opening days mean both privileges and responsibilities. May our enjoyment of the privileges be unalloyed proof we shall have met well our responsibilities. We pray that at the very beginning of this session, as these men elected by us to prepare the laws of the State enter upon their work, they may be conscious of Thy presence. Give them, we pray, Thy spirit of discretion. May there be nothing of a selfish or petty meanness in their deliberations. Help them to make use of the saintly spirit of non-offense. We pray that there may be the best things done for this State of ours. May the laws that are prepared be ones that shall be wise and helpful and useful. And so we ask at the beginning of this session that their deliberations and the actions of this body may have Thy approval, and that the laws that shall be passed may be of the sort that may have in them Thy blessing, and that this year may be for our State one of great blessing and power. These things we ask in Jesus' name. Amen."

The following communication from the Secretary of State was read:
