The mintites of the last regular meeting, held April 3, and of the special meeting, held April 17, were read and approved.

REPORTS OF STANDING COMMITTEES.

Mr. A. A. Low, Chairman of the Executive Committee, reported the following named candidates for membership:

These gentlemen were, on one ballot, duly elected members of the Chamber.

Mr. Low submitted an authenticated copy of a law recently passed by the Legislature of the State for the establishment of a Nautical School in this city; and, in connection therewith, reported the following preamble and resolutions, which were unanimously adopted:

Whereas, An act has just been passed by the Legislature of this State to authorize the Board of Education for the City and County of New-York to establish a Nautical School in this city, and which law, section 4, authorizes "the Chamber of Commerce to provide for and appoint a Committee of its members to serve as the Council of the Nautical School, whose duty it shall be, as far as may be, to advise and co-operate with the Board of Education in the establishment and management of such school, and, from time to time, to visit and examine the same, and to communicate in respect thereof with the Board of Education and such Executive Committee thereof, and to make reports to the Chamber of Commerce, which may transmit to the State Superintendent of Public Instruction such reports, or any thereof, or an abstract thereof, or an abstract of the same, with such recommendation as may be deemed advisable;" therefore,

Resolved, That the Chamber of Commerce accepts the trust thus confided to it in the said section 4, and will cheerfully lend its aid in promoting the best interests of the said nautical school in conformity with the said act.

Resolved, That Messrs. JOHN D. JONES, JOHN K. MYERS and HENRY A. BARLING be, and are hereby appointed such Committee, to serve for the term of one year, until the next annual election for officers of the Chamber.
