PREFACE TO THE FOURTH EDITION.
The large and rapid sale of a second and third edition of this work bears witness that my colleagues and the public know how to value the book of Mons. LE BRUN. I have added to this fourth edition a Selection from the French Examination Papers for the Royal Military College, Sandhurst; the Direct Commissions; the Royal Military Academy, Woolwich ; and the Civil Service of India, which, I hope, may prove useful to gentlemen preparing for these respective Examinations, as well as for all those who wish to acquire an idiomatic knowledge of the French language.
HENRI VAN LAUN.
