CIRCUIT Courts. The United States are divided into the seven following judicial circuits, in each of which a Circuit Court is held twice every year, for each State within the circuit, by a Justice of the Supreme Court, assigned to the circuit, and by the District Judge of the State or District, in which the Court sits.

Present Judge. 1st Circuit, Maine, N. Hampshire, Mass., and R. Island, Mr. Justice Story. 20 do, Vermont, Connecticut, and New York, Mr. Justice Thompson. 3d do. New Jersey and Pennsylvania,

Mr. Justice Baldwin. 4th do. Delaware and Maryland,

Mr. Justice Duvall. 5th do. Virginia and North Carolina,

Mr. Chief Jus. Marshall. 6th do. South Carolina and Georgia,

Mr. Justice Johnson. 7th do. Tennessee, Kentucky, and Ohio,

Mr. Justice M-Lean. In the other six states, viz. Alabaina, Mississippi, Louisiana, Indiana, Illinois, and Missouri, and the territories of Florida, Michigan, and Arkansas, no Circuit Court sits, but the District Court in these several states and territories possesses the powers and jurisdiction of a Circuit Court.

There is a local Circuit Court held by three Judges in the District of Columbia, specially appointed for that purpose. The Chief Justice of that Court sits also as District Judge of that District.
