Today, we are commencing hearings on the appropriation requests for the legislative branch for fiscal year 1966, and are considering first the appropriations requested by the Library of Congress. The total funds requested for the various activities of the Library amount to $26,644,800 for fiscal year 1966, and the House of Representatives has allowed $25,502,300. The House allowance is $1,420,500 over the appropriations for the current fiscal year, but $1,142,500 under the budget estimates.
