PREFACE.

TRUE men and women everywhere are sure to be interested in a proper answer to the query, " How to Get and Keep a Cheerful Home?" because they know full well, it is only in proportion as Homes are made Cheerful and Bright, that the real happiness of families can be secured, or the prosperity of a nation promoted.

It is, therefore, not surprising that works on "Love, Courtship, Marriage," and "Home," always meet with a hearty welcome if they are found to contain "sensible advice" and "practical counsels" as to the best methods to be adopted by "those about to marry," or those who are married," if they wished to secure the most desirable blessings and joys of Home Life.

From all quarters I have received many thanks, grateful acknowledgments, and hearty testimonies, for the good things and happy effects which have been produced by the reading of my work, "HAPPY HOMES AND HOW TO MAKE THEM," and it is my earnest hope, in sending forth these ADDITIONAL COUNSELS AND HINTS, the product of much thought, and even wider experience, that they may bring

about even greater blessings among the Homes of the People. Should such be the case I am sure many families will be the better prepared for the pleasures of this life, and also for the joys of that "Home in Heaven" which the great and good Father has lovingly prepared for all those who faithfully honour and serve him in their journey through this world. That such may be the case is my earnest desire for all who may read these pages.
