collected edition of the works of this eminently national writer has ever appeared." At present the possession of anything like a collection of De Foe's writings amounts to an enviable monopoly, the result of infinite expense and infinite research; and thus it is that productions which ought to be in the hands of every reader, high or low, are encased, as rare jewels, within the library doors of a few wealthy literati. The present edition will furnish the world with an entire collection of these works, at a price which will render them accessible to the humblest classes, and in a form which will not disgrace the book-case of the highest.

De Foe was a giant in literature: there is no English author who has written so variously, and few who have written so well. It is difficult to imagine a subject which has not been illustrated by his graceful and powerful pen. There is no class of readers to whom he does not successfully address himself. Of the works now for the first time collected, his political treatises, in particular, on which he employed the very best of his days and his talents, constitute a mine which none can explore without being enriched

The present edition will contain the WHOLE of De Foe's works, printed in the size and form of the present prospectus, and published in monthly parts, each containing 80 pages, at 1s. The entire publication will form four handsome volumes. The series at present publishing concurrently are the series of Novels and Fictitious Narratives, and the series of Political and Polemical Works. A third series will shortly be commenced, embodying the other works, and thus the completion of this extensive and important undertaking will be effected at a comparatively early period. The Life of De Foe, by the Editor, is in preparation, and will speedily appear. Each work is printed from the best and fullest edition: in most cases from the first. All the notes, &c. to the pieces in Sir Walter Scott's edition are retained, and similar illustrations are supplied for the other works. Seven parts have already appeared, containing 'Moll Flanders,

Colonel Jack,' the Memoirs of a Cavalier,' Roxana,' and six of the author's political tracts, reprinted verbatim from the original editions, with historical notes.
