TRINIDAD AND TOBAGO

On August 31, 1962 Trinidad and Tobago became independent. By an exchange of letters on August 31, 1962 between the High Commissioner for the United Kingdom in Trinidad and Tobago and the Prime Minister of Trinidad and Tobago, the Government of Trinidad and Tobago agreed to assume all obligations and responsibilities of the United Kingdom which arise from any valid international instrument (including any such instrument made by the Government of the Federation of the West Indies by virtue of authority entrusted by the Government of the United Kingdom). The rights and benefits heretofore enjoyed by the Government of the United Kingdom by virtue of application of any such international instrument to Trinidad and Tobago shall henceforth be enjoyed by the Government of Trinidad and Tobago.
