Elements will go into a marriage of convenience with monopoly groups and financial circles in the former metropolitan country in an effort to defeat the revolution. This effort is made by force of arms. And to survive during this period of counter-revolution seeking to re-establish itself by force of arms, the revolution must of necessity make use of armed detachments of its most faithful workers and activists.

The story of Cuba is a case in point. The victory of Fidel Castro depended on a strong and disciplined military detachment of the national liberation movement. U.N. intervention was not possible when the fight against Batista was on because the whole thing was categorised as "police action" within the realm of the "Internal Affair" of Cuba. But after the defeat of Batista, counter-revolution, using both the U.S.A. and other Latin American States as jumping off guards, has been seeking to overthrow Castro by force of arms. Cuba's reply has been to arm the workers, the vanguard of the revolution, and to convert the armed detachments of the war against Batista into militia units defending the gains of the revolution.
