Increase associated with Federal Excise tax (FET) on ammunition. In the past, the Capitol Police did not pay FET on ammunition or other supplies and equipment. However, the Capitol Police was recently advised that they were not exempt from Federal Excise Tax.

Increase is due to the Biennial Promotional Process. This process involves contracting for a professional testing firm to develop and administer the promotional examinations for the ranks of Detective through Captain.

This is a new item for the Capitol Police. Previously, all computer equipment for the Capitol Police was provided by the Senate Computer Center. We were advised by the Senate Sergeant at Arms' Office to begin budgeting for computer equipment, since they would no longer provide this service.
