Oh, the Union man, he goes to town
Ano planks two silver dollars down
For a pair o' gloves that used to be
Just one, but soon will go to three.

And then he says, "I'll take a chance
And buy me a pair o' Sunday pants:"
But when he comes to pay the score
The "overalls" have cost him four.

But blue, or gray, or olive-drab,
This fellow will not wear the "scab"-
He thinks of the man of the other trade,
And the goods that he buys are "union-made."

He comes along where the markets keep
The pork, the steak, and the mild baa-sheep,
And where the butcher's brand is right
He kisses another "Buck" goodnight.

He walks right into the big shoe store

And there deposits twenty more

For his wife, himself, and his four little kids-
Oh, his monthly check is "on the skids."

He talks of the "Union" now and then

To some of the women, and all of the men,
And the fellow leads quite a happy life
With his four little "chaps" and a dear sweet wife.

His kids look up in their father's face
With the smile which is there by the God's good grace,
And the youngest tot quite unafraid
Says, "Daddy, dear, am I Union-made?"

Oh, the Union man. three cheers for him-
His heart is light though his purse is slim.
And I think when that heart is cold and chill
This man will work for the Union still.

For when this fellow comes to die.
And to don his wings where the angels fly,
I really think he'll have the sand
To see if they bear the "Union" brand.
