The Federal Deposit Insurance law was originally section 12B of the Federal Reserve Act. It was withdrawn from that Act and made the Federal Deposit Insurance Act (12 U.S.C. 1811-1831) by the Act of September 21, 1950 (64 Stat. 873). The Federal Deposit Insurance Act has been amended further by the Act of July 14, 1952 (66 Stat. 605), the Act of August 1, 1956 (70 Stat. 908), the Act of September 8, 1959 (73 Stat. 460), the Act of May 13, 1960 (74 Stat. 129), the Act of July 14, 1960 (74 Stat. 546), the Act of October 15, 1962 (76 Stat. 953), the Act of September 12, 1964 (78 Stat. 946), the Act of July 21, 1965 (79 Stat. 244), the Act of February 21, 1966 (80 Stat. 7), the Act of July 1, 1966 (80 Stat. 236), the Act of September 21, 1966 (80 Stat. 823), and the Act of October 16, 1966 (80 Stat. 1028).

This edition of the Federal Deposit Insurance Act and related Federal laws, which has been compiled in the Legal Division of the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation, supersedes and brings up to date a former edition which was published in January of 1965. The present edition incorporates all amendments to the Federal Deposit Insurance Act and contains related Federal laws applicable to the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation and insured banks which were enacted by the Congress up to October 22, 1966, the day on which the 89th Congress adjourned.
