Community Resources

The special summer schools made
extensive use of the rich resources
of the city of Chicago and the area
closely surrounding the city. The
use of the community was two-fold;
children visited places of interest;
and resource persons visited the
schools, in some instances wearing
costumes of an earlier period.

Buses totaling 120 were made avail-
able to the schools by the Board
of Education. Many schools supple-
mented the number of bus trips. The
proximity of places within the school
community, to which pupils could
walk, also contributed to the use of
these resources.

LAND FRANCE GERMANY SPAIN USSR

On the first day of the summer session and again at the end of the seventh week, tests were administered to all children. Adjustment teachers and psychologists, working under the direction of the principal of the special summer school, assumed responsibility for the testing program in each school and instructed teachers with regard to administration of the tests.
