BRIDGE ACROSS THE POTOMAC RIVER AT OR NEAR SHEPHERDSTOWN, W. Va.

Mr. COLE, from the Committee on Interstate and Foreign Commerce, submitted the following

REPORT

[To accompany H. R. 6285]

The Committee on Interstate and Foreign Commerce, to whom was referred the bill (H. R. 6285) authorizing the State Roads Commission of the State of Maryland and the State Road Commission of the State of West Virginia to construct, maintain, and operate a free highway bridge across the Potomac River in Washington County, Md., at or near a point opposite Shepherdstown, W. Va., and a point at or near Shepherdstown, Jefferson County, W. Va., to take the place of a bridge destroyed by flood, having considered the same, report thereon with a recommendation that it pass.

The bill has the approval of the Agriculture and War Departments, as will appear by the letters attached.

So far as the interests committed to this Department are concerned, I know of Do objection to the favorable consideration of the accompanying bill, H. R. 6285, Seventy-fifth Congress, first session, authorizing the State Roads Commission of the State of Maryland and the State Road Commission of the State of West Virginia to construct, maintain, and operate a free highway bridge across the Potomac River in Washington County, Md., at or near a point opposite Shepherdstown, W. Va., and a point at or near Shepherdstown, Jefferson County, W. Va., to take the place of a bridge destroyed by flood.

DEAR MR. LEA: Careful consideration has been given to the bill, H. R. 6285, transmitted with your letter of April 10 with request for a report thereon and such views relative thereto as the Department might desire to communicate. This bill would authorize the State Roads Commission of Maryland and the State Road Commission of West Virginia, or either of them, to construct, maintain, and operate a free highway bridge and approaches thereto across the Potomac River between a point at or near Shepherdstown, W. Va., and a point opposite in the State of Maryland.

Favorable action on the bill is recommended.

R. 6286) authorizing the State Roads Commission of the State of Maryland and the State Road Commission of the State of West Virginia to construct, maintain, and operate a free highway bridge across the Potomac River at or near a point in the vicinity of Hancock, in Washington County, Md., and a point near the north end of Morgan County, W. Va., to take the place of a bridge destroyed by flood, having considered the same, report thereon with a recommendation that it pass.

The bill has the approval of the Agriculture and War Departments, as will appear by the letters attached.

[To accompany H. R. 6292]

The Committee on Interstate and Foreign Commerce, to whom was referred the bill (H. R. 6292) to extend the times for the commencing and completion of the construction of a bridge across the Missouri River at or near Niobrara, Nebr., having considered the same, report thereon with a recommendation that it pass.

The bill has the approval of the Agriculture and War Departments, as will appear by the letters attached.

DEAR MR. LEA: Careful consideration has been given to the bill (H. R. 6292) transmitted with your letter of April 10 with request for a report thereon and such views relative thereto as the Department might desire to communicate.

This bill would extend for 1 and 3 years, respectively, from August 30, 1937, the times for commencing and completing the construction of the bridge across the Missouri River at or near Niobrara, Nebr., authorized by act of Congress approved August 30, 1935, as amended, to be constructed by Knox County, Nebr. The bill is without objection so far as this Department is concerned.
