PATENT OFFICE ATHLETICS.

BASE BALL.

The Patent Office has joined the Government League again this year. The League Season opens May 3. The opening game for the Patent Office is Wed. May 5, the opponents being the Government Printing Office, who were the winners last year in the Government League. All of the games will be called at 5:15 P. M. and are to be played on the north diamond of the Ellipse, directly south of the White House. The diamond is expected to be in shape and the team has been practicing some weeks. All persons interested in baseball are requested to see the manager, Mr. Geppert, in Div. 25.

TENNIS.

It has been tentatively decided, unless some rather concerted opposition to this plan develops, that the annual Office tournaments consisting of Ladies singles, Men's singles and doubles will be held during the latter part of June. This date, in lieu of August as heretofore, is nearer to the peak of the tennis season and consequently it is thought this year's tournament will arouse even greater interest among the tennis players of the Office than have past ones. Another factor in making the change is that an early tournament will enable the Patent Office to put its full strength on the courts during the season of the Departmental Tennis League.

GOLF.

The first matches for the sixth annual spring tournament are scheduled by the golf committee to be held on the public links beginning Apr. 24th. At least one tournament has been held each year since organization of the sport in the Patent Office in 1921. Considerable interest has been manifested in the past and is looked for

again this year. Two sixteens have generally turned out with qualifying scores ranging from 80 to 150 for 18 holes. The entrance fee of 50 cents is used for prizes but the object of the tournaments is rather to promote sociability than to bring out low scores.

COMMENT.

No. 11.

This ends the chain of temporary editors.

Next month our new editor-in-chief, Max Tucker, takes charge.

We are not unmindful of the fact that there are two Principal Examiners, new to the corps, whose biographies should be included in the series, but we believe "young blood" is willing to stand aside while we make a few remarks about one who has spent fifty nine years here and has seen many come and go.
