Barnard, a distinguished and devoted public servant who earned our esteem through his kindness, his fairness, and his burning desire to see that equal justice was reflected in all of his official acts. May I take this occasion to assure his loved ones that their loss has been our loss. On behalf of our association, Mr. Edward H. DEGROOT, JR.: May it please the Commission: On behalf of the Association of Interstate Commerce Commission Practitioners, I present to the Commission the following resolutions: Whereas: RESOLUTIONS On Sunday, January 2, 1949, George M. Barnard, member of the Interstate Commerce Commission since 1944, when he was appointed by President Roosevelt to complete the unexpired term of the late Joseph B. Eastman, died unexpectedly at his home of a heart attack. His loss is mourned by many friends, to whom the information regarding his death came as a severe shock. To quote Chairman Mahaffie, "Commissioner Barnard's fine personal qualities, his industry and professional skill, his integrity, forthrightness, and fairmindedness had won the affection and esteem |
