TESTIMONY OF MEMBERS OF CONGRESS AND OTHER INTERESTED INDIVIDUALS AND ORGANIZATIONS THE NATIONAL INSTITUTE OF NEUROLOGICAL AND COMMUNICATIVE DISORDERS AND STROKE

WITNESS

DR. RICHARD P. SCHMIDT, CHAIRMAN, NATIONAL COMMITTEE FOR RESEARCH IN NEUROLOGICAL DISORDERS AND STROKE

Mr. FLOOD. Now we will begin the hearings for what we call the public witnesses. Ever since the hearings began early in the year, there have been various Government witnesses for various departments and agencies. But now, as is the custom and the practice, we begin the testimony from the public witnesses.

The first witness will be Dr. Richard Schmidt, chairman of the National Committee for Research in Neurological Disorders and Stroke.

Dr. Schmidt?

Dr. SCHMIDT. Thank you, Mr. Chairman.

Mr. Chairman, I have several written statements, one for myself, one from Dr. Bucy, one from Dr. Langfitt at the University of Pennsylvania, and the other is from Dr. Snow, also from the University of Pennsylvania, who are all associated with our committee.

GENERAL STATEMENTS

To save your time, Mr. Chairman, I would request permission to introduce these into the record rather than having them appear personally.

Mr. FLOOD. Without objection, that will be done.

[The statements follow:]
