OF GENERAL AND PERSONAL INTEREST.

Mr. Paul B. Eaton, a third assistant examiner in Division 1, resigned March 16, 1924. Mr. Eaton was appointed from North Carolina on Aug. 13, 1920 and has been examining parts of Classes 97 and 55 and all of Class 47. He is a graduate of the University of North Carolina with a degree of A. B., and of Georgetown Uinversity Law School with the degree of LL. B. He intends to engage in the practice of general and patent law in North Carolina and will be the only practicing patent attorney in that state.

Mr. V. F. Davico, fourth assistant examiner in Div. 2, resigned March 15th. He was appointed from New York City, July 2, 1923, and has been examining Class 135, Umbrellas, Tents, Canopies, Etc.

Mr. W. E. Williams, a temporary fourth assistant examiner in Division 20, resigned March 15, 1924. Mr. Williams was apointed from the District of Columbia in October, 1919, and has been examining the class of Closure Fasteners. He is leaving to accept a position with Mr. E. B. H. Towers in Milwaukee.

Mr. J. T. Basseches, a second assistant examiner in Division 6, resigned March 24, 1924. He was appointed February 16, 1918 from New York City and has served in Divisions 28, 29 and 6. In Division 29 he handled the

classes of wood working and wooden buildings, and in Div. 6 he was engaged in examining part of Class 106, Plastic Compositions. Mr. Basseches is leaving to go into patent practice for himself in New York City.

Mr. W. J. Willis, a second assistant examiner in Div. 7, resigned April 12, 1924. Mr. Willis, who was appointed from Minnesota in May, 1919 and has been examining the class of moving pictures, is leaving to associate himself with The Westinghouse Electric Manufacturing Co., of South Philadelphia. Mr. Willis is a graduate of the Naval Academy and of the George Washington University.

Mrs. Jessica D. Stewart, a second assistant examiner in Div. 16, resigned March 31, 1924. Mrs Stewart was appointed from Mississippi on July 1, 1918.

Emerson Stringham, Assistant Examiner in Div. 21, recently gave a course of ten lectures on Patent Law and Practice, at the Y. M. C. A. hall at 18th and G. Sts., N. W.. Members of the examining corps to the number of 94 attended the course.

It is understood that the subject matter of these lectures will be available in printed form sometime in the future.

The following changes in committee chairmanships have been found necessary to be made and the lists published in the April number of the Journal should be modified accordingly: K. W. Boyd, Div. 48 chairman of the Athletics Committee in place of F. W. Beale; R. J. Eisinger, Div. 40, chairman of the Social Committee instead of F. S. Cross, as previously published.

The following members have been added to the Social Committee: Max Tucker, Div. 33; Vernon I. Richard, Div. 17; Ruth Greene, Div. 39.

Mr. Raymond Jones, first assistant examiner in Div. 22, has resigned to accept a position with the patent department of the Westinghouse Electric and Mfg. Co. and will assume charge of the Washington office of the above firm.

Mr. Jones entered the Office Sept. 15, 1914 and reached the grade of first assistant Sept. 1, 1921. With the exception of seven months service in Div. 26, he has served continuously in Div. 22 on Aeronautics and Firearms and has been the ranking assistant in the latter division for about two years.

Mr. Jones holds the degrees from Kansas University B. S. 1909 and E. E. 1914 and is a member of the Bar of the District of oClumbia.

PATENT OFFICE SOCIETY MEETING.

The regular April meeting of the Patent Office Society was held April 3rd in the third floor Rotunda of the Patent Office, President E. C. Taylor presiding. After reading of the minutes the Treasurer's report was submitted and approved. A satisfactory balance was shown to be on hand in the treasury. The Society took action authorizing the purchase of a suitable fire-proof booth and screen in order that the motion picture machine might be again put in use for exhibiting industrial and scientific films in the rotunda for the benefit of the examining corps and others.

Action was also taken approving the plan of a proposed prize essay contest which was submitted by the secretary F. H. Templeton, further notice of which will appear later in the Journal. After considerable discussion the meeting on motion adjourned.
