Purpose of topic

The items in Sections XII and XIII
provide livestock and poultry inven-
tories for small areas, as well as
bench-mark information for estimating
livestock and poultry numbers inter-
censally. The census provides the
only detailed analytical data for
farms classified by size of livestock
herd and size of poultry flock, as
well as size, tenure, type and
economic class of farm. Topics 125
and 126 provide essential data used in
the estimation of milk production.
Topic 135 provides the framework for
special inter-censal surveys of feed-
lots conducted by DBS and the provin-

ces.

128. Of the pigs 6 months and over how many are sows kept for breeding purposes?

141. Which of the following were produced under contract
during the past 12 months? (Cattle; pigs; chicken
broilers; turkeys; eggs; other (specify)).

142. Was this contract with a co-operative?

The extent of agricultural production under contract arrangements provides a measure of vertical integration (i.e., external managerial and investment involvement) in farming. This information provides the framework for further studies on contract farming.
