BRIDGE ACROSS MISSOURI RIVER AT OR NEAR POWERSITE CROSSING, MONTANA

Mr. LEA, from the Committee on Interstate and Foreign Commerce, submitted the following

REPORT

[To accompany H. R. 12919]

The Committee on Interstate and Foreign Commerce, to whom was referred the bill (H. R. 12919) granting the consent of Congress to the State of Montana or any political subdivisions or public agencies thereof, or any of them, to construct, maintain, and operate a free highway bridge across the Missouri River southerly from the Fort Belknap Indian Reservation at or near the point known and designated as the Power-site Crossing, having considered and amended the same, report thereon with a recommendation that it pass.

The bill has the approval of the War and Agriculture Departments, as will appear by the letters attached.

Amend the bill as follows:

Page 2, line 1, after the word "Belknap" strike out the word "Indiana" and insert the word "Indian" in lieu thereof. Line 3, after the word "Crossing," insert the words "in the State of Montana,”.

So far as the interests committed to this department are concerned, I know of no objection to the favorable consideration of the accompanying bill, H. R. 12919, Seventy-first Congress, second session, granting the consent of Congress to the State of Montana or any political subdivisions or public agencies thereof, or any of them, to_construct a free highway bridge across the Missouri River southerly from the Fort Belknap Indian Reservation at or near the point known and designated as the Power-site Crossing. A minor change in line 1 on page 2 of the bill has been indicated in red thereon.

DEAR MR. PARKER: Careful consideration has been given to the bill H. R. 12919, transmitted with your letter of June 13 with request for a report thereon and such views relative thereto as the department might desire to communicate. This bill would authorize the State of Montana, or any political subdivision or public agency thereof, or any of them, to construct, maintain, and operate a free highway bridge and approaches thereto across the Missouri River at a point southerly from the Fort Belknap Indian Reservation, at or near the point known and designated as the Power-site Crossing. Favorable action on the bill is recommended.

The Committee on Interstate and Foreign Commerce, to whom was referred the bill (S. 4400) to legalize a pier constructed in Chesapeake Bay at Annapolis Roads, Md., and to legalize an intake pipe in Warren Cove, at Plymouth, Mass., having considered the same, report thereon with a recommendation that it pass.

The bill has the approval of the War Department, as will appear by the letter attached.

Mr. COLTON, from the Committee on the Public Lands, submitted the following

REPORT

[To accompany H. R. 8534]

The Committee on the Public Lands, to whom was referred the bill (H. R. 8534) for the transfer of jurisdiction over Sullys Hill National Park from the Department of the Interior to the Department of Agriculture, to be maintained as the Sullys Hill National Game Preserve, and for other purposes, having considered the same, report favorably thereon and recommend that it do pass with the following amendments:

Page 1, line 7, strike out the word "park" and insert in lieu thereof the word "area".

Page 2, strike out all of section 2 and insert the following in lieu thereof:

SEC. 2. The Secretary of Agriculture is authorized to acquire, by purchase or otherwise, an area of adjacent land not to exceed 80 acres, with the improvements thereon, said lands upon acquisition by the United States to become a part of the Sullys Hill National Game Preserve.

The reasons for the change in administration as authorized in this bill are fully explained in letters from the Secretary of the Interior and the Secretary of Agriculture. The proposed legislation meets with the approval of both departments, as expressed in these letters, which are herein set out in full for the information of the House.
