In-flight data will be taken for predicting degree
of orthostatic intolerance and impairment of
physical capacity expected during re-entry and
afterwards. Lower Body Negative Pressure (LBNP)
equipment will be used. Plethysmographs will

measure leg volume before, during and after
application of negative pressure. Heart rate,
blood pressure and vectorcardiogram data will be
monitored to assess cardiovascular deconditioning.

SIGNIFICANCE

Crew exposure to longer mission periods
requires an understanding of deconditioning
caused by weightlessness and identification of
effective countermeasures.
