PREFACE

The Catalog of Copyright Entries is published in four parts. Part 1, Group 2, formerly issued
monthly, but issued as an annual for 1946, contains three sections:

1. Pamphlets and all other works registered under the designation “book” (Class A) not
listed in Part 1, Group 1, or Section II of this Catalog. Ia. Supplement to L.
Contributions to newspapers or periodicals registered under the designation of "book"
(Class A) and Renewal Copyright registrations of such Contributions.

II.

III. Maps (Class F) and Renewal Copyright registrations of Maps.

Entries in Section I are arranged alphabetically by the names of the authors, with cross refer-
ences from title, joint authors, editors, and copyright proprietors, interfiled in the same alphabet.
Entries for contributions to newspapers or periodicals are listed in the same way, with the list
of renewals in a separate alphabet immediately following. Renewal registrations for all works
designated as books (Class A), except contributions to newspapers or periodicals, will be found in
Part 1, Group 1.

Entries for maps are filed alphabetically in a separate group, arranged under the name of the area
represented by the map, with cross references from names of copyright proprietors and distinctive
titles, interfiled in the same alphabet. A list of renewal copyright registrations arranged in the
same manner, follows in a separate alphabet.

Copyright data is given in the following order for original registrations: the symbol "", followed
by the date of publication, the name and address of the copyright proprietor, and the copyright regis-
tration number. The name of the copyright proprietor is omitted in the copyright data if the copyright
proprietor is the person or organization under whose name the entry is listed.

The following abbreviations are used in the copyright statement for renewal registrations:

A - Author, W - Widow of the author, Wr - Widower of the author, C - Child or children of the de-
ceased author, E - Executor(s) of the author, NK - Next of kin of the author, who is not living, there
being no will, PPW - Proprietor of a posthumous work, PCW - Proprietor of a composit work, PCB -
Proprietor of a work copyrighted by a corporate body otherwise than as assignee or licensee of the
author, PWH - Proprietor of copyright in a work made for hire, P - Proprietor.

In the case of every copyright entry listed in this Catalog the deposit of copies (or copy) as re-
quired by Sec. 12 of the Copyright Act of March 4, 1909, as amended (17 U. S. C. 12) has been made.
Section 56 of the Act of March 4, 1909 (17 U. S. C. 56) provides that the Catalog of Copyright
Entries "shall be admitted in any court as prima facie evidence of the facts stated therein as regards
any copyright registration."
