Minimum wage laws were enacted to raise the incomes of low-wage workers. Tariffs raise the prices of imported goods, thus providing protection to US import-competing firms. Some of the newer regulatory agencies like the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) are not principally interested in price effects.
